Our Patron in the News

Professor Jim Khan, our patron and consultant colorectal surgeon at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth, has been featured on BBC News following a groundbreaking UK clinical trial showing that immunotherapy treatment eliminated bowel cancer in 59% of eligible patients — with zero recurrences after three years of follow-up.

Prof Khan highlighted the vital importance of understanding tumour biology and the genetic make-up of tumours, calling for a more tailored approach to treatments so patients can be given a clearer picture of how their cancer is likely to respond.

Elise's Challenge for PBCA

Elise Sargent was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in January 2025. Despite undergoing extensive chemotherapy and a 16-hour surgery, she is taking on three incredible athletic challenges — cycling the Tour de 4 in Glasgow, swimming the Swim Serpentine in Hyde Park, and running the 10-mile Great South Run in Portsmouth — all to raise funds for the Portsmouth Bowel Cancer Appeal.

Elise has so far raised £1,720 from 48 donations. Please support her incredible efforts — every donation makes a real difference to bowel cancer patients at QA Hospital.

Keeping Pace with Surgical Advancement

Technology is constantly advancing and UK hospitals don't have the resources needed to provide all that is required to keep pace with other European Countries. Consequently they are better equipped and have better survival rates and surgical outcomes than here in the UK.

We aim to raise funds through charitable donations and charity events, that is where we need your help. Donations can be made using the donate link which directs to our JustGiving page. We will also be holding a number of ticketed events throughout the year to raise funds so do check our events to find out more….
